Role Summary:

We at NCR Edinburgh are looking for an experienced and results-oriented Java Developer to join our Fractals Product development team. Fractals is NCRs fraud detection and prevention engine. It runs many complex rules against financial transactions in real-time while managing hundreds of transactions per second.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing code within an agile team

  • Attend/contribute to daily agile ceremonies

  • Contribute to design/code reviews

  • Supporting improvements in our development process and tools/technologies

  • Provide engineering support for what we develop (physical deployments and SaaS)

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject

  • At least 5 years of relevant hands on development experience using Java

  • Java 8, object oriented programming and development practices and design methodologies

  • Demonstrable experience in Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration

  • Understanding of parallel programming concepts in Java

  • Proficient in writing clean, modular and maintainable code, but also improve legacy code through refactoring when needed

  • Strong advocate of ‘software quality’ disciplines; design review, code review, TDD and ideally BDD (using cucumber)

  • Able to incrementally understand the existing product codebase, analyze business requirements and develop new product features by providing effective technical solutions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with SVN or other source code version management tool

  • Familiar with setup of project in Eclipse using Maven, and ideally within Jenkins or other CI environment

  • Familiar with SOAP and REST Web Services, GWT, Oracle DB, MQ

  • Familiar with performance/load testing of enterprise applications

  • Familiar with Agile development, ideally Scrum using JIRA

  • Quick to pick up new areas, domains, product knowledge
