NCR AMS Technical Consultant in Atlanta, Georgia

NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) is the global leader in consumer transaction technologies, turning everyday interactions with businesses into exceptional experiences. With its software, hardware, and portfolio of services, NCR enables nearly 700 million transactions daily across retail, financial, travel, hospitality, telecom and technology, and small business. NCR solutions run the everyday transactions that make your life easier. NCR is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with approximately 29,000 employees and does business in 180 countries. The successful candidate will play an important role on the NCR Advanced Marketing Solution (AMS) team, providing billable technical consulting services for AMS implementations. This is a technical subject matter expert role, not a programming role, although familiarity with programming languages is a plus. A range of IT experience is helpful, because AMS and its components may be variously located at the retailer’s physical stores, at the retailer’s data center, or at the NCR data center.

Since this is a consulting role, travel to US and Canadian customer sites will be necessary. Generally, a technical consultant can expect to travel 15-25% of the time. The successful candidate will also be available to travel to other international locations if that becomes necessary.

This person will work with retailers across multiple industries (Grocery, Convenience, and Specialty) to implement the AMS software, and consult with them about the interfaces from their point of sale systems and host applications (such as CRM, product hierarchy, online shopping, mobile applications, etc.) to the AMS Loyalty application. The person will also be able to consult with the retailers’ technical resources as well as knowledgeable staff from the retailers’ other application providers, providing expert guidance and answering detailed questions about the configuration, setup, optimization, and maintenance of AMS, the use of the AMS interface specifications (including both incoming and outgoing messages), and the different ways to implement required functionality, including the technical pros and cons of the various possible implementations.

The Technical Solution Consultant will: Become a subject matter expert and provide expert billable consulting to retailers on the architecture and all other technical aspects of the AMS product, including the host systems, databases, store systems, and required platform software (such as the operating systems). This includes Windows and Linux operating systems and both NCR-developed and third party messaging tools. Develop detailed expertise on the AMS interface specifications for both the Logix host applications and the in-store loyalty engines. This includes understanding and being able to consult with retailers on the SQL database and the processes (“agents”) used to interface to AMS. Work as a Technical Analyst to understand retailers’ technical and non-functional requirements, understand the retailers’ potential load on AMS and recommended system sizing and configuration to avoid performance bottlenecks, capture the retailer’s other requirements, and work with the rest of the implementation team to compare those requirements against existing AMS functionality to determine potential gap requirements.

  1. Work with internal NCR development teams to transfer knowledge learned from interaction with retailers so that this knowledge can inform possible new feature development.

  2. Consult and provide training to retailers on:

    • Details of the interface specifications

    • Server, database, and network infrastructure configuration and sizing to meet storage and throughput load levels

    • Installation options, configuration settings, and targeted architecture to ensure that AMS is set up properly based on their intended usage

    • Failover/redundancy techniques to be used for the AMS solution

    • AMS features and technical details such as the value and meaning of each message and field within a message, and ensuring that the retailers’ implementations meet our specification guidelines

    • Possible workarounds or new high level design options to meet gap needs.
